Zone E-mail Versus Private Messages

What is the difference, on The Zone, between sending a private message and sending an e-mail? I sent someone an e-mail yesterday and think I meant to send them a pm. I thought private messages were just in quick notes, but when I get a message from someone, my e-mail says "you've got mail at the zone) and then here I'll see "you've got 1 private message". Confusing.

this is what i've always thought.

when you send an email it goes to the address the zone have on file for that person and they can read the message as a normal email and not have to log in. then if they want to, they can either reply to the message or log in and send an email to the other person. that's probably why you see that message. it could have something to do with zone emails, but i personally think it's the proper address.

as for private messages, that's just sending someone and offline message (if you want to call it that) then that person will e notified and log in to read it.

Thanks. That definitely explains it better. *smile*

If someone sends you an email through the link in your profile, you will get it in your email in box and can either reply or not. If you do reply, that person will then have your email address. If you'd rather not share your email address, it's best to use the private message system on the zone.
